About this section

NIH Rare Diseases:42 An adenoma of the adrenal gland is a non-cancerous (benign) tumor on the adrenal gland. it can develop at any age but is more common in people between the ages of 40 and 60; people over age 70 are at significantly higher risk. it typically causes no complications, but in some cases, can cause severe problems. sometimes these tumors become "active" or "functioning" which means they produce hormones, often in excess of what the adrenal glands typically produce. this can have negative effects on an individual's health, potentially causing primary aldosteronism, cushing's syndrome and other medical conditions. most benign adrenal tumors are non-functioning and do not need immediate treatment, but some may become functioning and require treatment including medications or surgery. last updated: 10/24/2011

MalaCards based summary: Adrenal Adenoma, also known as adenoma of the adrenal gland, is related to cushing's syndrome and conn's syndrome. An important gene associated with Adrenal Adenoma is MEN1 (multiple endocrine neoplasia I), and among its related pathways are Corticotropin-releasing hormone and Estrone metabolism. The compounds 19-Oxo-deoxycorticosterone and 19-oic-deoxycorticosterone have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include adrenal gland, testes and kidney, and related mouse phenotypes are reproductive system and endocrine/exocrine gland.

Disease Ontology:8 An endocrine organ benign neoplasm that is a benign tumor of the glandular type (adenoma) in the adrenal gland.

Wikipedia:65 A adrenal adenoma is a benign tumor of the glandular type (adenoma) in the adrenal gland. While some... more...
