Summaries for Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:45 Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is an allergic lung reaction to a type of fungus (aspergillus fumigatus). symptoms vary, but may include wheezing, bronchial hyperreactivity, hemoptysis, productive cough, low-grade fever, malaise, and weight loss. it is more common in people who have asthma or cystic fibrosis. the recommended treatment for allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is itraconazole, a prescription antifungal medication. oral corticosteroids, like prednisone, may also be helpful. the clinical course of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is variable. many people with this condition can be stabilized for long periods when treated. however, only about 50% of patients achieve long-lasting remission and many require recurrent courses of treatment. last updated: 5/21/2015

MalaCards based summary: Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis, also known as aspergillosis, allergic bronchopulmonary, is related to angiomyolipoma and severe acute respiratory syndrome, and has symptoms including asthma, abnormality of eosinophils and abnormality of temperature regulation. An important gene associated with Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis is IL4 (Interleukin 4), and among its related pathways are IL-9 Signaling Pathways and their Primary Biological Effects in Different Immune Cell Types and OX40 Pathway. Affiliated tissues include lung, colon and breast, and related mouse phenotypes are respiratory system and hematopoietic system.

Disease Ontology:10 An aspergillosis that involves an allergic reaction due to the spores of Aspergillus moulds (A. fumigatus), which colonizes the mucus in the airways causing inflammation. The disease has symptom cough, has symptom wheezing and has symptom fever.
