CDC:3 Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, or RSV, is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. Most otherwise healthy people recover from RSV infection in 1 to 2 weeks. However, infection can be severe in some people, such as certain infants, young children, and older adults. In fact, RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia in children under 1 year of age in the United States. In addition, RSV is more often being recognized as an important cause of respiratory illness in older adults.

MalaCards: Bronchiolitis is related to bronchiolitis obliterans and bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia, and has symptoms including cough, wheezing and fever. An important gene associated with Bronchiolitis is IL8 (interleukin 8), and among its related pathways are Akt Signaling and PEDF Induced Signaling. The compounds vegf and nitric oxide have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include skin, liver and kidney, and related mouse phenotypes are immune system and mortality/aging.

Disease Ontology:8 A lung disease that is an inflammation of the bronchioles, the smallest air passages of the lungs. it is caused by viruses and bacteria. the disease has symptom cough, has symptom wheezing, has symptom shortness of breath, has symptom fever, has symptom nasal flaring in infants and has symptom bluish skin due to lack of oxygen.
