Summaries for Charles Bonnet Syndrome

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:45 Charles bonnet syndrome (cbs) refers to the presence of visual hallucinations in individuals with visual acuity loss without having psychosis or dementia. the condition is likely caused by the brain continuing to interpret images, even in their absence. underlying conditions of vision loss associated with charles bonnet syndrome are diverse (including conditions such as macular degeneration and stroke) and may affect the eye, optic nerve, or brain. hallucinations often resolve if the underlying vision deficit is corrected and can also remit in some individuals with static or progressive vision loss. treatment is individualized. last updated: 1/4/2013

MalaCards based summary: Charles Bonnet Syndrome, also known as cbs, is related to homocystinuria due to cbs deficiency and homocystinuria, and has symptoms including glare - eye symptom, autoscopy and neurologic neglect syndrome. An important gene associated with Charles Bonnet Syndrome is HARS (Histidyl-TRNA Synthetase). Affiliated tissues include eye, brain and breast.
