Summaries for Collagenous Colitis

NIH Rare Diseases : 49 Collagenous colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the colon. It is a form of microscopic colitis, which means that the inflammation is only visible when a biopsy is examined under a microscope; the inflammation cannot be seen or diagnosed from colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Signs and symptoms may be ongoing or intermittent and may include chronic, watery, non-bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain or cramps. The exact underlying cause is unknown but may relate to a bacteria, a virus, an autoimmune response, and/or a genetic predisposition. Treatment for collagenous colitis varies depending on the symptoms and severity in each individual. In some cases, the condition resolves on its own. Last updated: 6/20/2013

MalaCards based summary : Collagenous Colitis, also known as colitis, collagenous, is related to lymphocytic colitis and proctitis. An important gene associated with Collagenous Colitis is RNASE3 (Ribonuclease A Family Member 3), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Hepatitis C and Hepatocellular Carcinoma. The drugs Budesonide and Anti-Asthmatic Agents have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include colon, small intestine and t cells, and related phenotypes are Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2) and Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2)

Disease Ontology : 12 A colitis characterized by a distinctive thickening of the subepithelial collagen table.
