Summaries for Frey Syndrome

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:48 Frey's syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that may result from injury or surgery near the parotid glands (which manufacture saliva), damaging the facial nerve. the parotid glands are the largest salivary glands and are located on the side of the face below and in front of the ear. this syndrome is characterized by flushing or sweating on one side of the face when certain foods are consumed. the symptoms are usually mild and well tolerated. in cases where symptoms are more extreme or accompanied by significant disruption of daily activities, drug therapy or surgery may be utilized. last updated: 9/25/2016

MalaCards based summary: Frey Syndrome, also known as sweating, gustatory, is related to folic acid deficiency anemia and american histoplasmosis, and has symptoms including hyperhidrosis An important gene associated with Frey Syndrome is CANX (Calnexin), and among its related pathways is FOXA2 and FOXA3 transcription factor networks. Affiliated tissues include salivary gland, testes and skin, and related mouse phenotype neoplasm.
