Summaries for Frey Syndrome

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:46 Frey's syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that results from injury or surgery near the parotid glands (which manufacture saliva), damaging the facial nerve. the parotid glands are the largest salivary glands and are located on the side of the face below and in front of the ear. this syndrome is characterized by flushing or sweating on one side of the face when certain foods are consumed. the symptoms usually are mild and well tolerated by most individuals. relief from symptoms may require treatment in some cases. last updated: 5/25/2011

MalaCards based summary: Frey Syndrome, also known as sweating, gustatory, is related to deep corneal vascularisation and algoneurodystrophy, and has symptoms including other symptoms and signs concerning food and fluid intake, salivary gland pain and sialectasia nos. An important gene associated with Frey Syndrome is ATP2A2 (ATPase Sarcoplasmic/Endoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ Transporting 2), and among its related pathways is FOXA2 and FOXA3 transcription factor networks. Affiliated tissues include salivary gland, brain and testes, and related mouse phenotypes are respiratory system and integument.
