About this section

NIH Rare Diseases:41 Gangliocytoma is a rare tumor of ganglia-type cells, which are groups of nerve cells in the brain. gangliocytomas can happen at any age but most often appear between the age of 10 and 30 years. signs and symptoms of this condition are a long history of recurring seizures and increased brain pressure. typically, these tumors do not become cancerous. treatment involves surgical removal of the tumor. radiation may be necesary if the entire tumor can not be removed.  last updated: 7/25/2012

MalaCards based summary: Gangliocytoma, also known as ganglioneuroblastoma, is related to ganglioneuroma and pituitary adenoma. An important gene associated with Gangliocytoma is SYP (synaptophysin). The compounds betamethasone and l-amino acid have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, cerebellum and pituitary, and related mouse phenotypes are tumorigenesis and no phenotypic analysis.

Wikipedia:63 Ganglioglioma is a tumour that arises from ganglion cells in the central nervous system. Gangliogliomas... more...
