CDC:3 Giardia is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness known as giardiasis. Giardia (also known as Giardia intestinalis, Giardia lamblia, or Giardia duodenalis) is found on surfaces or in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces (poop) from infected humans or animals.

MalaCards: Giardiasis, also known as infection by giardia lamblia, is related to diarrhea and deficiency anemia. An important gene associated with Giardiasis is TPI1 (triosephosphate isomerase 1), and among its related pathways are Fructose catabolism and Glucose metabolism. The drugs albendazole and metronidazole and the compounds 2-phosphoglycerate and 3-phosphoglycerate have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include small intestine, testes and pancreas, and related mouse phenotype homeostasis/metabolism.
