NIH Rare Diseases: Hemangiopericytoma is a term used to described a group of tumors that are derived from pericytes, the cells normally arranged along specific types of blood vessels called capillaries and venules.  These types of tumors are typically slow-growing, may be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), and may occur anywhere in the body. 30

MalaCards: Hemangiopericytoma, also known as hemangiopericytoma, malignant (morphologic abnormality), is related to meninges hemangiopericytoma and fibrous meningioma. An important gene associated with Hemangiopericytoma is DES (desmin), and among its related pathways are Glioblastoma Multiforme and eNOS Signaling. The compounds glucose and mucicarmine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include heart and liver, and related mouse phenotypes are endocrine/exocrine gland and respiratory system.

Disease Ontology: A soft tissue cancer that is a soft tissue sarcoma and originates in the pericytes in the walls of capillaries.6
