NIH Rare Diseases:42 Hemangiopericytoma is a term used to described a group of tumors that are derived from pericytes, the cells normally arranged along specific types of blood vessels called capillaries and venules. these types of tumors are typically slow-growing, may be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), and may occur anywhere in the body. last updated: 11/19/2013

MalaCards: Hemangiopericytoma, also known as hemangiopericytoma, malignant, is related to meningioma and sarcoma. An important gene associated with Hemangiopericytoma is DES (desmin), and among its related pathways are Striated Muscle Contraction and EGFR Signaling Pathway. The compounds estrogen and glycogen have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include bone, breast and lung, and related mouse phenotypes are reproductive system and embryogenesis.

Disease Ontology:8 A soft tissue cancer that is a soft tissue sarcoma and originates in the pericytes in the walls of capillaries.
