MedlinePlus:33 Kaposi's sarcoma is a cancer that causes patches of abnormal tissue to grow under the skin, in the lining of the mouth, nose, and throat or in other organs. the patches are usually red or purple and are made of cancer cells and blood cells. the red and purple patches often cause no symptoms, though they may be painful. if the cancer spreads to the digestive tract or lungs, bleeding can result. lung tumors can make breathing hard. before the hiv/aids epidemic, ks usually developed slowly. in hiv/aids patients, though, the disease moves quickly. treatment depends on where the lesions are and how bad they are. treatment for hiv itself can shrink the lesions. however, treating ks does not improve survival from hiv/aids itself. nih: national cancer institute

MalaCards: Kaposi's Sarcoma, also known as kaposi sarcoma, is related to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and angiosarcoma, and has symptoms including biological inflammatory syndrome/increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate/crp, gynecomastia/breast/mammary gland enlargement/hyperplasia and diffuse/generalised skin hyperpigmentation/melanoderma. An important gene associated with Kaposi's Sarcoma is IL6 (interleukin 6 (interferon, beta 2)), and among its related pathways are Immune System and PEDF Induced Signaling. The drugs etoposide and interferon alfa-2a and the compounds vegf and tyrosine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include lung, skin and lymph node, and related mouse phenotypes are immune system and integument.

Disease Ontology:8 A connective tissue cancer that derives from lymphatic endothelium, and derives from spindle cells, results in formation of vascular channels that fill with blood cells, has material basis in human herpesvirus 8 (hhv8).
