NIH Rare Diseases:45 Linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis is a skin condition characterized by swirling streaks of hyperpigmented (darkened) skin. the hyperpigmentation follows the lines of blashko. the hyperpigmentation often occurs alone, but additional symptoms have been described in individual cases. its occurrence is nearly always sporadic. the cause of linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis is not known. last updated: 3/18/2013
