Summaries for Lipoma

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:45 Familial multiple lipomatosis (fml) is a rare condition that is characterized by multiple lipomas on the trunk and extremities. as the name suggests, fml is diagnosed when multiple lipomatosis occurs in more than one family member, often over several generations. the lipomas associated with fml are usually painless, but may impact quality of life as they can be numerous and large. although the condition appears to be passed down through families in an autosomal dominant manner, the underlying genetic cause is currently unknown. treatment is based on the signs and symptoms present in each person. surgical excision may be necessary if the tumors interfere with movement and/or daily life. last updated: 3/31/2016

MalaCards based summary: Lipoma, also known as familial multiple lipomatosis, is related to classic type lipoma and extrahepatic bile duct lipoma, and has symptoms including multiple lipomas An important gene associated with Lipoma is LPP (LIM Domain Containing Preferred Translocation Partner In Lipoma), and among its related pathways are Bladder cancer and Oncogene Induced Senescence. Affiliated tissues include breast, colon and liver.

Disease Ontology:10 A cell type benign neoplasm that is composed of lipocytes.
