Summaries for Mycobacterium Avium Complex Disease

NIH Rare Diseases : 50 mycobacterium avium complex (mac) refers to infections caused by two types of bacteria: mycobacterium avium and mycobacterium intracellulare. mac primarily affects people with compromised immune systems (for example from aids, hairy cell leukemia, or immunosuppressive chemotherapy) or underlying lung disease. symptoms can be non-specific and may include fever, sweats, weight loss, abdominal pain, fatigue, chronic diarrhea, and anemia. it may cause local disease affecting the central nervous system, lymph nodes, soft tissue, or bones; or, it may cause multi-system disease also affecting other organs and systems. mac is spread when the bacteria, found in water, soil and dust particles, are inhaled or ingested. treatment for mac varies depending on the type and may include antibiotics, antituberculosis drugs, and/or surgery. last updated: 12/21/2015

MalaCards based summary : Mycobacterium Avium Complex Disease, also known as mycobacterium avium-intracellulare infection, is related to hepatitis and tuberculosis. An important gene associated with Mycobacterium Avium Complex Disease is TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and PEDF Induced Signaling. The drugs Clarithromycin and Clofazimine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include lung, bone and lymph node, and related phenotypes are digestive/alimentary and hematopoietic system

Disease Ontology : 12 A primary bacterial infectious disease that results_in infection, has material basis in Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), which is transmitted_by inhalation or transmitted_by ingestion of via the respiratory or gastrointestinal tract respectively. The bacteria cause disseminated infection in HIV infected people, while pulmonary disease in immunocompetent persons.

Wikipedia : 71 Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare infection (MAI) is an atypical mycobacterial infection, i.e. one with... more...
