Summaries for Myiasis

About this section
CDC:2 Myiasis is the infection of a fly larva (maggot) in human tissue. This occurs in tropical and subtropical areas. Myiasis is rarely acquired in the United States; people typically get the infection when they travel to tropical areas in Africa and South America. People traveling with untreated and open wounds are more at risk for getting myiasis. Fly larvae need to be surgically removed by a medical professional.

MalaCards based summary: Myiasis, also known as infestation by fly larvae, is related to creeping myiasis and wound myiasis. An important gene associated with Myiasis is MT-CO1 (Mitochondrially Encoded Cytochrome C Oxidase I). Affiliated tissues include skin, breast and salivary gland.

Disease Ontology:11 A parasitic ectoparasitic infectious disease that is caused by parasitic dipterous fly larvae (maggots) feeding on the host's necrotic or living tissue.
