Summaries for Oral Lichen Planus

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:48 Oral lichen planus is a inflammatory condition that affects the inside of the mouth.  Signs and symptoms include patches of fine white lines and dots most commonly in the inside of the cheeks, gums, and/or tongue. Most people with lichen planus experience no to few symptoms, others may have painful sores or ulcers in the mouth. Severe lichen planus slightly increases the risk for oral cancer. Oral lichen planus may occur alone or in combination with other skin forms of lichen planus. Last updated: 7/20/2011

MalaCards based summary: Oral Lichen Planus, also known as oral lichenoid lesions, is related to systemic lupus erythematosus and lichen planus, and has symptoms including oral manifestations, chapping of lips and pigmentation lip. An important gene associated with Oral Lichen Planus is TP63 (Tumor Protein P63), and among its related pathways are LDL Oxidation in Atherogenesis and TP53 network. Affiliated tissues include t cells, thyroid and tongue, and related mouse phenotypes are Decreased influenza A H1N1 (A/Hamburg/04/2009) virus numbers and cardiovascular system.
