Summaries for Pineocytoma

NIH Rare Diseases : 50 a pineocytoma is a tumor of the pineal gland, a small organ in the brain that makes melatonin (a sleep-regulating hormone). pineocytomas most often occur in adults as a solid mass, although they may appear to have fluid-filled (cystic) spaces on images of the brain. signs and symptoms of pineocytomas include headaches, nausea, hydrocephalus, vision abnormalities, and parinaud syndrome. pineocytomas are usually slow-growing and rarely spread to other parts of the body. treatment includes surgery to remove the pineocytoma; most of these tumors do not regrow (recur) after surgery. last updated: 11/13/2014

MalaCards based summary : Pineocytoma, also known as tumor of the pineal region, is related to pineoblastoma and ovarian small cell carcinoma. An important gene associated with Pineocytoma is ASMT (Acetylserotonin O-Methyltransferase), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Neuroscience and Neural Stem Cell Differentiation Pathways and Lineage-specific Markers. The drugs Carboplatin and Cyclophosphamide have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, pineal and bone.

Wikipedia : 72 Pineocytoma, also known as a pinealocytoma, is a benign, slowly growing tumor of the pineal gland.... more...
