MedlinePlus: Your pituitary gland is a pea-sized gland at the base of your brain. the pituitary is the "master control gland" - it makes hormones that affect growth and the functions of other glands in the body.
pituitary tumors are fairly common. about 1 in 10,000 people get them. they grow slowly, do not spread and are usually not cancerous. the most common type of pituitary tumor produces hormones and disrupts the balance of hormones in your body. this can cause endocrine diseases such as cushing's syndrome and hyperthyroidism.
symptoms of pituitary tumors include
headaches
vision problems
nausea and vomiting
any of the problems caused by the production of too many hormones
pituitary tumors are usually curable. treatment is often surgery to remove the tumor. other options include medicines and radiation.23
MalaCards: Pituitary Tumor, also known as pituitary tumors, is related to prolactin producing pituitary tumor and thyroid cancer. An important gene associated with Pituitary Tumor is PTTG1IP (pituitary tumor-transforming 1 interacting protein), and among its related pathways are Neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction and CREB Pathway. The drugs octreotide acetate and octreotide and the compounds glucose and levodopa have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, skin and liver, and related mouse phenotypes are endocrine/exocrine gland and respiratory system. NINDS: The pituitary is a small, bean-sized gland that is below the hypothalamus, a structure at the base of the brain, by a thread-like stalk that contains both blood vessels and nerves.31 Wikipedia: Pituitary adenomas are noncancerous tumors that occur in the pituitary gland.
