Summaries for Punctate Inner Choroidopathy

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:45 Punctate inner choroidopathy (pic) is an inflammatory disorder that primarily affects the choroid of the eye and occurs predominantly in young, nearsighted (myopic) women. signs and symptoms may include scotomata, blurred vision, photopsias, floaters, photophobia, distorted vision (metamorphopsia), and/or loss of peripheral vision. the majority of cases are self-limited with good visual prognosis, but permanent and severe visual loss can occur as a result of the development of choroidal neovascular membranes (cnv). the cause of pic is not known, but it is thought to involve both genetic predisposition and environmental factors. the majority of affected individuals who do not have cnv do not require treatment; for others, treatment may include medication, laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy (treatment with drugs that become active when exposed to light) and/or surgery. last updated: 1/4/2012

MalaCards based summary: Punctate Inner Choroidopathy, also known as pic, is related to mesenteric vascular occlusion and breast cancer. An important gene associated with Punctate Inner Choroidopathy is IL10 (Interleukin 10), and among its related pathways are Immune response IFN alpha/beta signaling pathway and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Differentiation Pathways and Lineage-specific Markers. Affiliated tissues include eye, lung and brain.
