About this section

NIH Rare Diseases:42 Pyogenic granuloma are small, reddish bumps on the skin that bleed easily due to an abnormally high number of blood vessels. they typically occur on the hands, arms, or face. while the exact cause of pyogenic granulomas is unknown, they often appear following injury. pyogenic granuloma is often observed in infancy and childhood, but may also be observed in adults, particularly in pregnant women. small pyogenic granulomas may go away on their own. larger lesions are treated with surgery, electrocautery, freezing, or lasers. last updated: 11/13/2012

MalaCards based summary: Pyogenic Granuloma, also known as hemangioma, lobular capillary, is related to hemangioendothelioma and kaposi's sarcoma. An important gene associated with Pyogenic Granuloma is ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2), and among its related pathways are Response to elevated platelet cytosolic Ca2+ and HIF-1 signaling pathway. The compounds glycosaminoglycan and infliximab have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include skin, tongue and bone, and related mouse phenotypes are respiratory system and digestive/alimentary.
