Summaries for Talipes Equinovarus

About this section
NIH Rare Diseases:45 Talipes equinovarus is a congenital (present from birth) condition where the foot turns inward and downward. the cause of this condition is not known, although it may be passed down through families in some cases. this condition occurs in about 1 out of every 1,000 births. treatment may involve moving the foot into the correct position and using a cast to keep it there. this process is done in small increments over a period of time. in severe cases, surgery may be needed. body {background-color: #ffffff; font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 12pt;} last updated: 2/27/2014

MalaCards based summary: Talipes Equinovarus, also known as congenital talipes equinovarus, is related to esophageal atresia coloboma talipes and intellectual deficit unusual facies talipes hand anomalies. An important gene associated with Talipes Equinovarus is IRF6 (Interferon Regulatory Factor 6). Affiliated tissues include brain, smooth muscle and endothelial, and related mouse phenotypes are hearing/vestibular/ear and limbs/digits/tail.
