Summaries for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

NIH Rare Diseases : 53 Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening lung condition that prevents enough oxygen from getting to the lungs and into the blood. People who develop ARDS often are very ill with another disease or have major injuries. The condition leads to a buildup of fluid in the air sacs which prevents enough oxygen from passing into the bloodstream. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, low blood pressure and organ failure, rapid breathing and shortness of breath.

MalaCards based summary : Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, also known as acute lung injury, is related to respiratory distress syndrome in premature infants and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and has symptoms including dyspnea, respiratory distress and apnea. An important gene associated with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome is ELANE (Elastase, Neutrophil Expressed), and among its related pathways/superpathways are PAK Pathway and Toll-like Receptor Signaling Pathway. The drugs Tramadol and Sufentanil have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include lung, neutrophil and endothelial.
