Summaries for Aseptic Meningitis

CDC : 3 Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis, an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. It is often less severe than bacterial meningitis, and most people get better on their own (without treatment). However, anyone with symptoms of meningitis should see a doctor right away because some types of meningitis can be very serious. Only a doctor can determine if someone has meningitis, what is causing it, and the best treatment. Babies younger than 1 month old and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe illness from viral meningitis.

MalaCards based summary : Aseptic Meningitis, also known as acute aseptic meningitis, is related to syphilitic meningitis and mumps. An important gene associated with Aseptic Meningitis is IL1R1 (Interleukin 1 Receptor Type 1), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and ERK Signaling. The drugs Ceftriaxone and Acyclovir have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include spinal cord, brain and pituitary, and related phenotypes are Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor) and Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor)

Disease Ontology : 12 A meningitis that is characterized by meningeal inflammation not caused by an identifiable bacterial pathogen in the cerebrospinal fluid. A large majority of them are caused by enteroviruses.

KEGG : 36 Aseptic meningitis is one of the most common inflammatory disorders of the meninges and includes all types of meningitis not due to pyogenic bacteria. It has a very broad etiology, including both viral and non-viral infections, drugs, malignancy, and systemic illness. Viral meningitis constitutes the most common cause of aseptic meningitis. Clinical manifestations include headache, fever, malaise, photophobia, and meningeal signs.

Wikipedia : 73 Aseptic meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges, a membrane covering the brain and spinal cord,... more...
