Summaries for Bacterial Meningitis

CDC : 3 Bacterial meningitis is very serious and can be deadly. Death can occur in as little as a few hours. Most people recover from meningitis. However, permanent disabilities (such as brain damage, hearing loss, and learning disabilities) can result from the infection. Several types of bacteria can cause meningitis. Leading causes in the United States include Streptococcus pneumoniae Group B Streptococcus Neisseria meningitidis Haemophilus influenzae Listeria monocytogenes These bacteria can also be associated with another serious illness, sepsis. Sepsis is the body’s extreme response to infection. Without timely treatment, sepsis can quickly lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

MalaCards based summary : Bacterial Meningitis, also known as meningitis, bacterial, is related to haemophilus meningitis and haemophilus influenzae. An important gene associated with Bacterial Meningitis is CRP (C-Reactive Protein), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and PEDF Induced Signaling. The drugs Acetaminophen and Cefotaxime have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include endothelial, spinal cord and brain, and related phenotypes are cardiovascular system and homeostasis/metabolism

Disease Ontology : 12 A meningitis that has material basis in a bacterial infection.
