Summaries for Blastomycosis

CDC : 3 Blastomycosis is an infection caused by a fungus called Blastomyces. The fungus lives in the environment, particularly in moist soil and in decomposing matter such as wood and leaves. Blastomyces mainly lives in areas of the United States and Canada surrounding the Ohio and Mississippi River valleys and the Great Lakes. People can get blastomycosis after breathing in the microscopic fungal spores from the air. Although most people who breathe in the spores don't get sick, some of those who do may have flu-like symptoms, and the infection can sometimes become serious if it is not treated.

MalaCards based summary : Blastomycosis, also known as blastomyces dermatitidis infection, is related to aspergillosis and nocardiosis, and has symptoms including skin lesions, lung lesions and pleural thickening. An important gene associated with Blastomycosis is GC (GC Vitamin D Binding Protein), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Allograft rejection. The drugs Amphotericin B and Miconazole have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include lung, skin and bone, and related phenotypes are hematopoietic system and endocrine/exocrine gland

Disease Ontology : 12 A primary systemic mycosis that results in a systemic fungal infection, has material basis in Blastomyces dermatitidis, transmitted by airborne spores and has symptom skin lesions, has symptom lung lesions and has symptom pleural thickening.

NIH Rare Diseases : 52 Blastomycosis is a rare infection that may develop when people inhale a fungus called Blastomyces dermatitidis , a fungus that is found in moist soil, particularly where there is rotting vegetation. The fungus enters the body through the lungs, infecting them. The fungus then spreads to other areas of the body. The infection may affect the skin, bones and joints, and other areas. The disease usually affects people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV or who have had an organ transplant.

Wikipedia : 74 Blastomycosis is a fungal infection caused by inhaling Blastomyces dermatitidis spores. If it involves... more...
