Summaries for Chromoblastomycosis

NIH Rare Diseases : 54 Chromoblastomycosis is a chronic fungal infection characterized by raised and crusted lesions which affect the skin and subcutaneous tissue. It most often occurs on the limbs, but can affect any area of the body. Chromoblastomycosis is caused by several fungi found in soil, wood, and decaying plant material. It usually enters the skin through a minor injury such as a splinter. It is most common in areas with tropical and subtropical climates. Treatment of chromoblastomycosis may include medications like itraconazole and flucytosine, cryotherapy, or surgery.

MalaCards based summary : Chromoblastomycosis, also known as chromomycosis, is related to aspergillosis and pulmonary disease, chronic obstructive, and has symptoms including pruritus and symptoms. An important gene associated with Chromoblastomycosis is HLA-A (Major Histocompatibility Complex, Class I, A), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Cytokine Signaling in Immune system. Affiliated tissues include skin, brain and testes, and related phenotypes are Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2) and Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2)

Disease Ontology : 12 A subcutaneous mycosis that is a chronic subcutaneous fungal infection, which presents as nodular or verrucoid, ulcerated, or crusted skin lesions on exposed areas of skin caused by Fonsecaea pedrosoi, Fonsecaea compacta, Cladophialophora carrionii or Phialophora verrucosa. Histological examination reveals muriform cells (with perpendicular septations) or thick walled, dark-colored, rounded forms (copper pennies) that are characteristic of this infection.
