Summaries for Cold Urticaria

NIH Rare Diseases : 53 Cold urticaria is a condition that affects the skin. Signs and symptoms generally include reddish, itchy welts (hives) and/or swelling when skin is exposed to the cold (i.e. cold weather or swimming in cold water). This rash is usually apparent within 2-5 minutes after exposure and can last for 1-2 hours. The exact cause of cold urticaria is poorly understood in most cases. Rarely, it may be associated with an underlying blood condition or infectious disease. Treatment generally consists of patient education, avoiding exposures that may trigger a reaction, and/or medications.

MalaCards based summary : Cold Urticaria, also known as primary idiopathic cold urticaria, is related to familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome 1 and muckle-wells syndrome. An important gene associated with Cold Urticaria is NLRP3 (NLR Family Pyrin Domain Containing 3), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Formation of Fibrin Clot (Clotting Cascade) and IL1 and megakaryocytes in obesity. The drugs Desloratadine and Histamine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include skin and testes, and related phenotype is hematopoietic system.
