Summaries for Dysgraphia

NINDS : 54 Dysgraphia is a neurological disorder characterized by writing disabilities. Specifically, the disorder causes a person's writing to be distorted or incorrect. In children, the disorder generally emerges when they are first introduced to writing. They make inappropriately sized and spaced letters, or write wrong or misspelled words, despite thorough instruction. Children with the disorder may have other learning disabilities; however, they usually have no social or other academic problems. Cases of dysgraphia in adults generally occur after some trauma. In addition to poor handwriting, dysgraphia is characterized by wrong or odd spelling, and production of words that are not correct (i.e., using "boy" for "child"). The cause of the disorder is unknown, but in adults, it is usually associated with damage to the parietal lobe of the brain.

MalaCards based summary : Dysgraphia, also known as agraphia, is related to semantic dementia and gerstmann syndrome, and has symptoms including scanning speech and other symbolic dysfunction. An important gene associated with Dysgraphia is MAP4K5 (Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Kinase Kinase Kinase 5). The drugs tannic acid and Benzocaine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, parietal lobe and testes, and related phenotypes are Increased simian virus 40 (SV40) infection and cellular

Disease Ontology : 12 A writing disorder that involves a deficiency in the ability to write where the writing is distorted or incorrect, spelling difficulty, poor handwriting or trouble putting thoughts on paper.

Wikipedia : 76 Dysgraphia is a deficiency in the ability to write, primarily handwriting, but also coherence.... more...
