Summaries for Eastern Equine Encephalitis

GARD : 20 Eastern equine encephalitis (Triple E) is an illness caused by a virus that comes from an infected mosquito bite. Most people who are infected have no symptoms, but some may develop fever, headaches, and vomiting. Symptoms occur within 4-10 days of being infected and most recover in 1-2 weeks. A small number will develop swelling of the brain and severe neurological symptoms that can be permanent. Triple E can also lead to coma and death. This condition is caused by a type of arbovirus and is transmitted by a mosquito which has bitten an infected bird or reptile. Diagnosis is based on the symptoms, specific findings in the blood, and occasionally by an MRI of the brain. There is no specific treatment for Triple E. It is managed by taking care of the symptoms. Prevention includes avoiding mosquito bites and controlling mosquito populations.

MalaCards based summary : Eastern Equine Encephalitis, also known as eee, is related to western equine encephalitis and west nile virus. An important gene associated with Eastern Equine Encephalitis is IFNA1 (Interferon Alpha 1). The drugs Vaccines and Aluminum hydroxide have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, kidney and pancreas.

Disease Ontology : 12 A viral infectious disease that results in inflammation located in brain of horses and humans, has material basis in Eastern equine encephalitis virus, which is transmitted by Aedes, transmitted by Coquillettidia, and transmitted by Culex species of mosquitoes. The infection has symptom sudden onset of headache, has symptom high fever, has symptom chills, has symptom vomiting, has symptom disorientation, has symptom seizures, and has symptom coma.

CDC : 3 EEE virus is a rare cause of brain infections (encephalitis). Only a few cases are reported in the United States each year. Most occur in eastern or Gulf Coast states. Approximately 30% of people with EEE die and many survivors have ongoing neurologic problems.
