Summaries for Epiglottitis

Disease Ontology : 12 An upper respiratory tract disease which involves inflammation of the epiglottis due to infection. Haemophilus influenzae type B is the most common bacterial causative agent, although some cases are attributable to Streptococcus pneumoniae or Streptococcus pyogenes. The infection can cause the epiglottis to either obstruct or completely close off the windpipe. Epiglottitis typically affects children, and is associated with fever, difficulty in swallowing, drooling, hoarseness of voice, and stridor.

MalaCards based summary : Epiglottitis, also known as acute epiglottitis, is related to haemophilus influenzae and pharyngitis. An important gene associated with Epiglottitis is OMP (Olfactory Marker Protein). The drugs Immunoglobulins and Vaccines have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include tongue, trachea and bone marrow, and related phenotypes are Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2) and Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2)
