Summaries for Gallbladder Disease

MedlinePlus : 42 Your gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ under your liver. It stores bile, a fluid made by your liver to digest fat. As your stomach and intestines digest food, your gallbladder releases bile through a tube called the common bile duct. The duct connects your gallbladder and liver to your small intestine. Your gallbladder is most likely to give you trouble if something blocks the flow of bile through the bile ducts. That is usually a gallstone. Gallstones form when substances in bile harden. Rarely, you can also get cancer in your gallbladder. Many gallbladder problems get better with removal of the gallbladder. Fortunately, you can live without a gallbladder. Bile has other ways of reaching your small intestine.

MalaCards based summary : Gallbladder Disease, also known as gallbladder diseases, is related to gallbladder disease 4 and cholecystitis, and has symptoms including nausea and vomiting, constipation and abdominal pain. An important gene associated with Gallbladder Disease is GBD2 (Gallbladder Disease 2), and among its related pathways/superpathways are ABC transporters and Fat digestion and absorption. The drugs Lidocaine and Rocuronium have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include gallbladder, liver and pancreas, and related phenotypes are Decreased free cholesterol and endocrine/exocrine gland

Disease Ontology : 12 A gastrointestinal system disease that is located in the gallbladder.

KEGG : 36 Gallbladder disease is one of the most common digestive disorders. Cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder wall, that is almost always associated with cholelithiasis, or gallstones. Cholecystitis and cholelithiasis appear to be caused by the actions of several genes and environment working together. It has been reported that an ABCB4 mutation which causes a deficiency in biliary phosphatidylcholine secretion is associated with gallstones. Recently, several common DNA polymorphisms in the ABCG8 gene were discovered that are associated with gallstone disease.

Wikipedia : 73 Gallbladder diseases are diseases involving the gallbladder and is closely linked to biliary disease,... more...
