Summaries for Hearing Loss, Noise-Induced

OMIM : 58 Regular exposure to continuous noise or an exposure to a single acoustic overstimulation can lead to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Millions of people worldwide are exposed daily to harmful levels of noise, making NIHL a likely widespread occupational health hazard. NIHL is a complex disease resulting from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors and is highly variable between individuals (Konings et al., 2009). (613035)

MalaCards based summary : Hearing Loss, Noise-Induced, also known as hearing loss, noise-induced, susceptibility to, is related to toxic encephalopathy and ataxia, combined cerebellar and peripheral, with hearing loss and diabetes mellitus. An important gene associated with Hearing Loss, Noise-Induced is CDH23 (Cadherin Related 23), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Glutathione metabolism and Fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis. The drugs Orange and Sorbitol have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include testes, brain and bone.
