Summaries for Hyperhidrosis, Gustatory

NIH Rare Diseases : 53 Frey's Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that may result from injury or surgery near the parotid glands (which manufacture saliva), damaging the facial nerve. The parotid glands are the largest salivary glands and are located on the side of the face below and in front of the ear. This syndrome is characterized by flushing or sweating on one side of the face when certain foods are consumed. The symptoms are usually mild and well tolerated. In cases where symptoms are more extreme or accompanied by significant disruption of daily activities, drug therapy or surgery may be utilized.

MalaCards based summary : Hyperhidrosis, Gustatory, also known as frey syndrome, is related to mitral valve stenosis and prolapse of female genital organ. An important gene associated with Hyperhidrosis, Gustatory is CANX (Calnexin), and among its related pathways/superpathways is FOXA2 and FOXA3 transcription factor networks. The drugs Central Nervous System Depressants and Anesthetics have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include salivary gland, testes and skin, and related phenotypes are hyperhidrosis and neoplasm

OMIM : 57 Gustatory sweating results from a disruption of the auriculotemporal nerve pathways. Damage to the nerve may cause a misdirected regrowth that results in parasympathetic innervation of sympathetic receptors and, therefore, facial sweating and flushing with gustatory stimulation (summary by Dunbar et al., 2002).
