Summaries for Intracranial Aneurysm

NINDS : 53 A cerebral aneurysm is a weak or thin spot on a blood vessel in the brain that balloons out and fills with blood.  A cerebral aneurysm can press on a nerve or surrounding tissue in the brain, and also leak or burst, which lets blood spill into surrounding tissues (called a hemorrhage). Cerebral aneurysms can occur at any age, although they are more common in adults than in children and are more common in women than in men. These aneurysms can occur anywhere in the brain. Some small aneurysms may not show signs and are usually detected during imaging tests for other medical conditions. The signs and symptoms of an unruptured cerebral aneurysm will partly depend on its size and rate of growth. A larger aneurysm that is steadily growing may produce symptoms such as numbness, pain above and behind the eye, and paralysis on one side of the face. Immediately after an aneurysm ruptures, an individual may experience such symptoms as a sudden and unusually severe headache, nausea, vision impairment, vomiting, and loss of consciousness.

MalaCards based summary : Intracranial Aneurysm, also known as brain aneurysm, is related to aneurysm and polycystic kidney disease 1 with or without polycystic liver disease, and has symptoms including seizures, edema and tremor. An important gene associated with Intracranial Aneurysm is CDKN2B-AS1 (CDKN2B Antisense RNA 1), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Collagen chain trimerization and Degradation of the extracellular matrix. The drugs Propofol and Dexmedetomidine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include brain, kidney and eye, and related phenotypes are cardiovascular system and hematopoietic system

MedlinePlus : 42 A brain aneurysm is an abnormal bulge or "ballooning" in the wall of an artery in the brain. They are sometimes called berry aneurysms because they are often the size of a small berry. Most brain aneurysms produce no symptoms until they become large, begin to leak blood, or burst. If a brain aneurysm presses on nerves in your brain, it can cause signs and symptoms. These can include A droopy eyelid Double vision or other changes in vision Pain above or behind the eye A dilated pupil Numbness or weakness on one side of the face or body Treatment depends on the size and location of the aneurysm, whether it is infected, and whether it has burst. If a brain aneurysm bursts, symptoms can include a sudden, severe headache, nausea and vomiting, stiff neck, loss of consciousness, and signs of a stroke. Any of these symptoms requires immediate medical attention. NIH: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
