Summaries for Legionellosis

CDC : 3 Legionnaires’ (LEE-juh-nares) disease is a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection) caused by Legionella (LEE-juh-nell-a) bacteria. Legionella can also cause a milder illness called Pontiac fever. People can get sick when they breathe in mist or accidently swallow water into the lungs containing Legionella. Most people exposed to Legionella do not get sick. However, people 50 years or older, current or former smokers, and people with a weakened immune system or chronic disease are at increased risk.

MalaCards based summary : Legionellosis, also known as legionella infection, is related to legionnaires' disease and brucellosis, and has symptoms including coughing, fever and pruritus. An important gene associated with Legionellosis is TLR5 (Toll Like Receptor 5), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Akt Signaling. The drugs Azithromycin and Clarithromycin have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include respiratory tract, lung and testes, and related phenotypes are renal insufficiency and proteinuria

Disease Ontology : 12 A primary bacterial infectious disease that results in infection located in respiratory tract, has material basis in Legionella pneumophila, which is transmitted by inhalation of droplets containing bacteria. The symptoms include dry cough, fever, headache and diarrhea.

Wikipedia : 76 Legionnaires\' disease is a form of atypical pneumonia caused by any type of Legionella bacteria. Signs... more...
