Summaries for Molluscum Contagiosum

CDC : 3 Molluscum contagiosum is an infection caused by a poxvirus (molluscum contagiosum virus). The result of the infection is usually a benign, mild skin disease characterized by lesions (growths) that may appear anywhere on the body. Within 6-12 months, Molluscum contagiosum typically resolves without scarring but may take as long as 4 years. The lesions, known as Mollusca, are small, raised, and usually white, pink, or flesh-colored with a dimple or pit in the center. They often have a pearly appearance. They're usually smooth and firm. In most people, the lesions range from about the size of a pinhead to as large as a pencil eraser (2 to 5 millimeters in diameter). They may become itchy, sore, red, and/or swollen. Mollusca may occur anywhere on the body including the face, neck, arms, legs, abdomen, and genital area, alone or in groups. The lesions are rarely found on the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet.

MalaCards based summary : Molluscum Contagiosum is related to hyper ige syndrome and immunodeficiency 58, and has symptoms including lesions which are flesh-colored An important gene associated with Molluscum Contagiosum is CASP8 (Caspase 8), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Toll-like Receptor Signaling Pathway and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The drugs Cantharidin and Pharmaceutical Solutions have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include skin, skin and t cells, and related phenotypes are Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor) and Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor)

Disease Ontology : 12 A viral infectious disease that results in infection located in skin, has material basis in Molluscum contagiosum virus, which is transmitted by contact with the skin, and transmitted by fomites. The infection has symptom lesions which are flesh-colored with a pit in the center.

Wikipedia : 75 Molluscum contagiosum (MC), sometimes called water warts, is a viral infection of the skin that results... more...
