Summaries for Monkeypox

Disease Ontology : 12 A viral infectious disease that results in infection of primates, rodents and humans, located in skin, has material basis in Monkeypox virus, which is transmitted by contact with the animal's blood, body fluids, rash, or with the body fluids of a sick person, transmitted by fomites, and transmitted by respiratory droplets. The infection has symptom fever, has symptom muscle ache, has symptom headache, and has symptom lymphadenopathy.

MalaCards based summary : Monkeypox, also known as monkeypox virus infections, is related to variola major and exanthem, and has symptoms including fever and pruritus. An important gene associated with Monkeypox is CYB5R3 (Cytochrome B5 Reductase 3), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Allograft rejection and Hematopoietic cell lineage. Affiliated tissues include skin, lymph node and t cells, and related phenotypes are Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2) and Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2)

MedlinePlus : 42 Monkeypox is a rare viral disease. It occurs mostly in central and western Africa. Wild rodents and squirrels carry it, but it is called monkeypox because scientists saw it first in lab monkeys. In 2003, it was reported in prairie dogs and humans in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

CDC : 3 Monkeypox was first discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research, hence the name ‘monkeypox.' The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a period of intensified effort to eliminate smallpox. Since then monkeypox has been reported in humans in other central and western African countries.
