Summaries for Multifocal Choroiditis

NIH Rare Diseases : 53 Multifocal choroiditis (MFC) is an inflammatory disorder characterized by swelling of the eye (called uveitis) and multiple lesions in the choroid, a layer of blood vessels between the white of the eye and the retina. Symptoms include blurry vision, floaters, sensitivity to light, blind spots and mild eye discomfort. Though the cause is unknown, multifocal choroiditis is seen most frequently in women ages 20 to 60, and usually affects both eyes. MFC is generally treated with steroid medication that can be taken orally or injected into the eye. Multifocal choroiditis is a chronic condition, thus symptoms may return or worsen even after successful treatment.

MalaCards based summary : Multifocal Choroiditis is related to histoplasmosis and panuveitis. An important gene associated with Multifocal Choroiditis is ARMS2 (Age-Related Maculopathy Susceptibility 2), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Lymphoid Cell Differentiation Pathways and Pertussis. The drugs Bevacizumab and Angiogenesis Inhibitors have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include eye, retina and endothelial.
