Summaries for Myocarditis

NIH Rare Diseases : 53 Myocarditis is a condition that is characterized by inflammation of the heart muscle (myocardium). Some affected people have no noticeable symptoms of the condition. When present, signs and symptoms may include chest pain, abnormal heartbeat, shortness of breath, fatigue, signs of infection (i.e. fever, headache, sore throat, diarrhea), and leg swelling. Myocarditis can be caused by a variety of factors including infections (viral, bacterial, parasitic, and fungal), allergic reactions to certain medications, and exposure to certain chemicals. It can also be associated with other inflammatory conditions such as lupus, Wegener's granulomatosis, giant cell arteritis and Takayasu's arteritis. Most cases occur sporadically in people with no family history of the condition. Treatment aims to address the underlying cause of the condition. Medications and rarely, a heart transplant may be needed if the heart muscle becomes weak.

MalaCards based summary : Myocarditis, also known as myocardial inflammation, is related to giant cell myocarditis and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms. An important gene associated with Myocarditis is MYH6 (Myosin Heavy Chain 6), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Class I MHC mediated antigen processing and presentation. The drugs Oseltamivir and Abatacept have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include heart, t cells and endothelial, and related phenotypes are Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor) and Synthetic lethal with MLN4924 (a NAE inhibitor)

Disease Ontology : 12 An extrinsic cardiomyopathy that is characterized as an inflammation of the heart muscle.

Wikipedia : 75 Myocarditis, also known as inflammatory cardiomyopathy, is inflammation of the heart muscle. Symptoms... more...
