Summaries for Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer

OMIM : 57 Ovarian germ cell cancers are malignancies that arise from germ cells of the embryonic gonad. Although benign germ cell tumors are relatively common, accounting for approximately 20% of all ovarian neoplasms, malignant ovarian germ cell tumors are rare. Weiss et al. (1977) estimated that less than 5% of ovarian cancers are of germ cell origin. (603737)

MalaCards based summary : Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer, also known as ovarian germ cell tumor, is related to pediatric ovarian germ cell tumor and malignant non-dysgerminomatous germ cell tumor of ovary. An important gene associated with Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer is TG (Thyroglobulin), and among its related pathways/superpathways is FOXA2 and FOXA3 transcription factor networks. The drugs Bleomycin and Carboplatin have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include ovary, bone and bone marrow, and related phenotypes are Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2) and Increased shRNA abundance (Z-score > 2)

Disease Ontology : 12 An ovarian cancer that originates in the germ (egg) cells of the ovary.
