Summaries for Paragonimiasis

Disease Ontology : 12 A parasitic helminthiasis infectious disease that involves parasitic infection by flukes of the genus Paragonimus. In the acute phase, the symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, cough, urticaria, hepatosplenomegaly, pulmonary abnormalities, and eosinophilia. Pulmonary manifestations include cough, expectoration of discolored sputum, hemoptysis, and chest radiographic abnormalities. Various organs like brain, spleen and liver can be infected.

MalaCards based summary : Paragonimiasis, also known as paragonimus westermani infection, is related to schistosomiasis and strongyloidiasis. An important gene associated with Paragonimiasis is IL5 (Interleukin 5), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Akt Signaling and PAK Pathway. Affiliated tissues include lung, liver and brain, and related phenotype is immune system.

CDC : 3 Paragonimus is a lung fluke (flatworm) that infects the lungs of humans after eating an infected raw or undercooked crab or crayfish. Less frequent, but more serious cases of paragonimiasis occur when the parasite travels to the central nervous system.

Wikipedia : 76 Paragonimiasis is a food-borne parasitic infection caused by the lung fluke, most commonly Paragonimus... more...
