Summaries for Pseudofolliculitis Barbae

KEGG : 36 Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a common skin disorder occurring predominantly in males of African origin, characterized by acneiform papules and pustules that result in keloidal scarring localized to the facial and submental regions. It is caused when highly curved hair shafts repenetrate the skin. A single nucleotide polymorphism in KRT75, which leads to a disruptive Ala12Thr substitution, has been demonstrated in the disease.

MalaCards based summary : Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, susceptibility to, is related to dowling-degos disease 1 and acne. An important gene associated with Pseudofolliculitis Barbae is KRT75 (Keratin 75). The drugs Eflornithine and Ornithine have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include skin.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot : 72 Pseudofolliculitis barbae: A common hair disorder characterized by a pustular foreign body inflammatory reaction that is induced by ingrown hairs of the facial and submental (barbea) regions after regular shaving. It primarily affects curly haired males. The etiology of PFB is multifactorial.
