Summaries for Salmonellosis

MedlinePlus : 43 Salmonella is the name of a group of bacteria. In the United States, it is a common cause of foodborne illness. Salmonella occurs in raw poultry, eggs, beef, and sometimes on unwashed fruit and vegetables. You also can get infected after handling pets, especially reptiles like snakes, turtles, and lizards. Symptoms include Fever Diarrhea Abdominal cramps Headache Possible nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite Symptoms usually last 4-7 days. Your health care provider diagnoses the infection with a stool test. Most people get better without treatment. Infection can be more serious in the elderly, infants, and people with chronic health problems. If Salmonella gets into the bloodstream, it can be serious. The usual treatment is antibiotics. Typhoid fever, a more serious disease caused by Salmonella, is not common in the United States. It frequently occurs in developing countries. NIH: National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

MalaCards based summary : Salmonellosis, also known as salmonella infections, is related to typhoid fever and schistosomiasis, and has symptoms including fever and pruritus. An important gene associated with Salmonellosis is IL12RB1 (Interleukin 12 Receptor Subunit Beta 1), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and PEDF Induced Signaling. The drugs Azithromycin and Cefixime have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include testes, colon and liver, and related phenotypes are Increased viability and hematopoietic system

Disease Ontology : 12 A primary bacterial infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the genus Salmonella. It has sypmtoms diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. In most cases, the illness lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.

CDC : 3 CDC estimates Salmonella causes about 1.2 million illnesses, 23,000 hospitalizations, and 450 deaths in the United States every year. Food is the source for about 1 million of these illnesses.

Wikipedia : 76 Salmonellosis is a symptomatic infection caused by bacteria of the Salmonella type. The most common... more...
