Summaries for Spinal Stenosis

MedlinePlus : 44 Your spine, or backbone, protects your spinal cord and allows you to stand and bend. Spinal stenosis causes narrowing in your spine. The narrowing puts pressure on your nerves and spinal cord and can cause pain. Spinal stenosis occurs mostly in people older than 50. Younger people with a spine injury or a narrow spinal canal are also at risk. Diseases such as arthritis and scoliosis can cause spinal stenosis, too. Symptoms might appear gradually or not at all. They include Pain in your neck or back Numbness, weakness, cramping, or pain in your arms or legs Pain going down the leg Foot problems Doctors diagnose spinal stenosis with a physical exam and imaging tests. Treatments include medications, physical therapy, braces, and surgery. NIH: National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases

MalaCards based summary : Spinal Stenosis, also known as spinal stenosis of lumbar region, is related to degenerative disc disease and spondylolisthesis, and has symptoms including back pain, torticollis and neck pain. An important gene associated with Spinal Stenosis is CALCA (Calcitonin Related Polypeptide Alpha), and among its related pathways/superpathways are ERK Signaling and Integrin Pathway. The drugs Tranexamic Acid and Prednisolone phosphate have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include bone, spinal cord and testes, and related phenotypes are Increased gamma-H2AX phosphorylation and hearing/vestibular/ear

Disease Ontology : 12 A bone deterioration disease that has material basis in bony spurs, disc degeneration, or thickened ligaments which results in narrowing located in spinal cord.

Wikipedia : 77 Cervical spinal stenosis is a bone disease involving the narrowing of the spinal canal at the level of... more...
