Summaries for Trench Fever

CDC : 3 Bartonella quintana, a pathogen that is restricted to human hosts and louse vectors, was first characterized as the agent of trench fever. The disease was described in 1915 on the basis of natural and experimental infections in soldiers. It is now recognized as a reemerging pathogen among homeless populations in cities in the United States and Europe and is responsible for a wide spectrum of conditions, including chronic bacteremia, endocarditis, and bacillary angiomatosis. Diagnosis is based on serologic analysis, culture, and molecular biology. Recent characterization of its genome allowed the development of modern diagnosis and typing methods. Guidelines for the treatment of B. quintana infections are presented.

MalaCards based summary : Trench Fever, also known as bartonellosis due to bartonella quintana infection, is related to pediculus humanus corporis infestation and bartonellosis. An important gene associated with Trench Fever is WARS1 (Tryptophanyl-TRNA Synthetase 1), and among its related pathways/superpathways are tRNA Aminoacylation and Mitochondrial protein import. Affiliated tissues include bone, endothelial and whole blood.

Disease Ontology : 12 A primary bacterial infectious disease that results in systemic infection, has material basis in Bartonella quintana, which is transmitted by body lice (Pediculus humanus corporis). The infection has symptom relapsing fever, has symptom headache, has symptom shin pain, and has symptom soreness of the muscles of the legs and back.
