Summaries for Varicose Veins

MedlinePlus: 41 Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that you can see just under the skin. They usually occur in the legs, but also can form in other parts of the body. Hemorrhoids are a type of varicose vein. Your veins have one-way valves that help keep blood flowing toward your heart. If the valves are weak or damaged, blood can back up and pool in your veins. This causes the veins to swell, which can lead to varicose veins. Varicose veins are very common. You are more at risk if you are older, are female, have obesity, don't exercise, or have a family history of varicose veins. They can also be more common in pregnancy. Doctors often diagnose varicose veins from a physical exam. Sometimes you may need additional tests. Exercising, losing weight, elevating your legs when resting, and not crossing them when sitting can help keep varicose veins from getting worse. Wearing loose clothing and avoiding long periods of standing can also help. If varicose veins are painful or you don't like the way they look, your doctor may recommend procedures to remove them. MalaCards based summary: Varicose Veins, also known as varices, is related to klippel-trenaunay-weber syndrome and telangiectasis, and has symptoms including angina pectoris, chest pain and edema. An important gene associated with Varicose Veins is VV (Varicose Veins), and among its related pathways/superpathways are Innate Immune System and Signal Transduction. The drugs Hesperidin and Ibuprofen have been mentioned in the context of this disorder. Affiliated tissues include liver, skin and heart, and related phenotypes are varicose veins and homeostasis/metabolism

PubMed Health : 63 Varicose veins: Varicose (VAR-i-kos) veins are swollen, twisted veins that you can see just under the surface of the skin. These veins usually occur in the legs, but they also can form in other parts of the body. Varicose veins are a common condition. They usually cause few signs and symptoms. Sometimes varicose veins cause mild to moderate pain, blood clots, skin ulcers (sores), or other problems.

Disease Ontology: 11 A vein disease that is characterized by swollen, twisted veins visible just under the surface of the skin.

Drugs & Therapeutics for Varicose Veins

PubMed Health treatment related to Varicose Veins: 63

Varicose veins are treated with lifestyle changes and medical procedures. The goals of treatment are to relieve symptoms, prevent complications, and improve appearance. If varicose veins cause few symptoms, your doctor may simply suggest making lifestyle changes. If your symptoms are more severe, your doctor may recommend one or more medical procedures. For example, you may need a medical procedure if you have a lot of pain, blood clots, or skin disorders caused by your varicose veins. Some people who have varicose veins choose to have procedures to improve how their veins look. Although treatment can help existing varicose veins , it can't keep new varicose veins from forming.
